Our clinic offers a comprehensive list of professional services to meet your equine's veterinary needs. Some of our services include:
Routine Care and Vaccinations
Annual veterinarian visits are essential to the well-being of every horse. Our doctors strive to provide a complete and custom vaccination schedule for your equine companion. Our office staff keeps meticulous medical records so you can be assured your horse is receiving the best possible care.
Routine floating of the teeth eliminates sharp points and hooks which can impede your horses chewing and performance with the bit. Each of our doctors is trained in equine dental care. Typically, they use manual floats and a speculum, however, if you wish, the doctor can use a power float. The doctors are also able to perform necessary tooth extractions (ie wolf teeth) and treat other dental problems that may arise.
Lameness is a tricky and problematic situation for horses and their owners. From something as basic as a foot abscess to as complex as ligament damage, lameness is a headache for everyone involved. Our doctors do their best to insure a proper diagnosis of lameness using diagnostic tools such as state of the art digital x-ray technology and ultrasound as well as relying on their years of experience.
Our clinic is happy to walk you through each step of the reproductive process from ultrasounding the mare to find out when she is ovulating to artificial insemination to newborn foal exams and IGG tests.
Our doctors can perform castrations and other minor surgeries in the field.
Acupuncture is a treatment that involves the stimulation of points, typically achieved through the insertion of specialized needles into the body. Acupuncture is very effective for providing pain relief and is particularly useful for hard to treat areas such as the back and hips. For more information on acupuncture treatment, please click here.
Here at the Illinois Field Service, we understand that purchasing a new horse is a big step. We offer prepurchase exams to help alleviate some of the stress that comes with buying a new horse. Our exams include a basic exam of the eyes, ears, heart, lungs, skin and teeth. An extensive soundness exam is included, where the horse is flexed and trotted out to help pinpoint any possible lameness issues. For an additional fee, state of the art digital x-rays can be taken to further diagnose and evaluate lameness problems that arise from the exam.
For all of our clients that seek out routine care for their horses, we offer emergency care 24/7. Services include colic exams, wound repair, emergency lameness, and whatever other predicament your horse may get into.
All of our bloodwork is sent out to state of the art laboratories with prompt turn around times. For Coggins tests, we use Global Vet Link, an online system that provides a fast turnaround and a professional, readable document with color photos of your horse. Your Coggins can then be emailed to you so it is always with you.
